New A&H user after trying several Zoom mixers and XR18 out of stock for so long. Cq20b seemed to hit all my requirements
Few questions please
Is there no way to set a date/time for the stored files on either USB or SD cards? It’s bad enough that the filename only increases sequentially (and apparently not able to be altered to a more helpful automated scheme, i.e., something incorporating the date/time)?
Ok looks like I didnt search appropriately beforehand. Looks like this has been an issue, and apparently Mixing Station doesn’t do this. So will get that. Repeat disconnecting on iPad (iPad Pro) using CQ’s builtin wifi, 5GHz I dont know if this is just me or an actual issue with software/hardware, but if I am connected to the CQ using CQMixPad, and I switch apps (Acrobat for my setlist) and then switch back a second later, the CQ is disconnected, and i have to reconnect again. Unfortunately, in the middle of a show, this really creates havoc when I really need to concentrate on my instrument but just wanted to slightly adjust a fader level. Oh and I recreated same issue on a friend’s iPad as well, so just not a “me” thing. Any way to avoid this please? Does this happen using MixingStation as well, i.e., just an issue with the way CQMixPad interfaces?
Is it ok to have an Aux out (XLR) going directly to an in-ear earphone (ie using an xlr to 1/8” adapter cable)? Or does it need a headphone amp of some sort inbetween to do a better job of matching varying impedances? Is it a “bad” thing (potential damage to unit) to not have one?
Unfortunately running 16.6.1 (there were some issues with upgrading with another program I use for work, and since things hadn’t been previously broken, I didnt want to “fix” em). TY for that suggestion
As for the WIFI disconnect try another 5ghz channel, there are WIFi scanner APPs that will list the WIFI channels in operation in the area your at, set the channel not to conflict with another operating channel.
Normally your better off using an external WIFI router connected to any mixer and not use the internal WIFI.
While the 1/4 inch aux out would give you some signal level in an ear bud or headphones the connection type in completely different, the aux outs are balanced line level using a tip ring sleeve connector, your ear buds want to see a stereo connection. Balanced line connections will have the tip and sleeve out of phase with each other.
Thank you everyone for your input - really appreciate it!
So I downloaded Mixing Station and it keeps the connection stable even when switching apps (using the CQ built-in wifi).
And thank you for the info re aux outs/IEMs. I’ll look into a IEM headphone amp.
Now if A&H can just fix/address the timestamp issue. Even if the unit itself doesn’t have a chip onboard that has that, certainly it could grab the time from a connected iPad/phone, etc
no built in real time clock, so it is not possible.
I believe this is an issue with later iPads and some iPad-OS versions. There are several tutorials available to sort this. It isn’t a problem with the CQ itself.
To have a headphone amp would be the better solution. But you can’t break the mixer if you connect a headphone direct to the XLR out.
