I would like to report a frequent Wi-Fi disconnection between the CQ-18T and MixPad 1.2.2
on Window 10 22H2 laptop Acer Aspire, through 2.4GHz band.
I was positioned around 7 meters away from the CQ mixer with my laptop, in order to configure the sound. Most of the time the connection was stable, but few times I’ve got few short drops and two times complete disconnection.
I used the mixer two times at the same venue being at the same distance from the CQ, I’ve got the same connection issue the previous time at the very same venue.
I hope this could be fixed with a firmware update?!
Just to mention that there was a wi-fi router near few centimeters away from the CQ, if this could be the reason?!
Nope. I’ve never connected the laptop of mine to the venue’s Wi-Fi network.
I even don’t know the passwords there….
The wi-fi integrated device in the laptop is pretty stable, since I’ve never experienced disconnection issues wherever I needed to use it.
I would consider a situation where two bidirectional radio devices with similar frequencies are operating right next to each other to be a fairly likely cause of connection problems.
Well, I am wondering if this is the case, or it’s something related to the internal CQ wi-fi device?!
I hope someone of the engineers who are responsible for the integration of the wi-fi in the mixer would make this situation more clear.
There are problems with using 2.4GHz as it allows a not only overcrowded but he channels also overlap somewhat. As a result you will find this issue duplicated in many threads in this forum.
Not only is WFi on 2.4GHz overcrowded but the same frequencies are shared with many wireless devices, including IEM and microphone links and Bluetooth.
The answer is not a change of hardware, firmware or software, but to change to 5.8GHz WiFi. Although in theory. 5.8GHz has a lower range, with the overcrowding in 2.4GHz and the channel integrity, that is no overlapping, the benefits of 2.4GHz are just theoretical. So change to 5.8GHz and if you are really concerned, use a travel router with a wired connection between the router and mixer.
Are you also using the CQ Bluetooth at the same time? Many have had issues with trying to use the 2.4ghz WiFi with Bluetooth also on. Change to 5.8Ghz and the problem goes away.
Hello @chienmort,
Thank you very much for the explanation and advice!
Unfortunately the laptop of mine is an old one and supports only 2.4GHz, but I have USB3 wi-fi adapter which allows me to have connection through the 5GHz band.
Hi @stix,
Nope, I’m not using both the Bluetooth and the wi-fi simultaneously. I’m not streaming audio to the mixer, just using MixPad on the laptop.
As mentioned switch to 5ghz. Also get a WIFI scanner app, I use “WIFI Man” on my Android tablet. That gives you a quick look of what WIFI channels are in use, set the WIFI to an unused channel. I tend to the use the lower 5ghz channels.
You also may get better connectivity using an external router.
