Cq12t of cq18t?

Hi everyone,

I currently own an Allen & Heath CQ12T, but I’m considering getting a second mixer. I only need a maximum of 6 channels, but I’d like an extra unit for other locations.

I’m thinking about moving to the CQ18T because it has four FX engines, which would allow me to set up my in-ear mixes differently. Also, the built-in WiFi seems convenient so I wouldn’t need an external router, keeping the setup cleaner with fewer cables.

My question is: Is the CQ18T a good upgrade, or is it unnecessary?
And more importantly: Is the built-in WiFi reliable, or does an external router still work better? there are Tree rotteries are there more things different on the 18t ?

Thanks in advance!

I’ve been using a cq18t for about six months, no issues with the hardware, the software interface…meh. For live work I’ve switched to Mixing Station where I programed everything to be “up front,” no drop downs. I would get the 18 under the theory that it’s easier to not use some of what’s there, than to “try” and use something that isn’t. Most of my current work needs at most a dozen channels…hth…/s~
