Anyone know if a cause and fix have been identified for this issue? Starting to have buyers remorse as I just ordered the cq20b for use with my small band and acoustic trio. Reliable monitor outs is a primary reason for upgrading from my current mixer.
@Vin,
There is no issue/ploblem with the aux outs, all work as intended. It is usually down to operator error.
We have not been able to reproduce any issue where the level or sound of mixes changes autonomously i.e. without being told to ‘do’ something.
The usual culprits (as mentioned already in this thread) are where Auto Gain is reducing preamp gain because the preamp was set too high, or if the Feedback Assistant is removing frequencies that it believes to be feedback. The latter of these is mainly problematic if Fixed Filter mode is active, which is intended for setup and ringing out, and left detecting through the rehearsal or show. OR if Live Filter mode is active and the recovery time has been set low, so filters are added but never recover.
Thanks,
Keith.
I had experienced something similar where digital Trim function would affect an Analog input’s level. It happed when I connected the CQ20B to the MacBook via powered USB hub and happened only on few channels. Reboot didn’t help. Only setting Trim to 0 sorted out this.
I had such config:
CQ20B, charger and Yamaha CP73 connected to Type C USB hub, all with USB. Also Yamaha CP was connected to CQ20B with two XLR inputs. And on those inputs sound became quieter when I connected hub to the Mac. Trim somehow went down by itself.
I didn’t try to reproduce the issue and decided not to connect CP and CQ at the same time to the computer.
Was this issue worked out by anyone that actually had the problem, not just people trying to help with possibilities and Keith with his usual excellent support? There seems to be no update from any of the people who made the original complaints. Was it a pre fader issue? To me that would seem the most likely but the OP should have noticed band member complaining straight after any adjustments were made on the main app if any were. I’m currently looking at getting one of these and this seems to be an odd problem if it’s not related to comps or pre faders. I might have missed something but was an actual change seen to happen on the app settings when this was noticed or was it noticed only by ear?
I think mikec responses here are on the right track re signal routing pre v post fader and checking things like whether the channel features like the compressor, gate or limiters are switched in on the channels.
Cheers
David
Hello, I also use the CQ20B recently to replace the MR18 that I was using during many years.
I have noticed that the GAIN of this track is changing by itself when volume is too high on the mic 1 track (vox channel test back to normal channel)
The Auto gain seems unactive on the menu
I am using now the MixingStation app because it is the same I was unsing on the MR18 and it is more reactive and easy to get things, and that the cq app doesn’t work anymore on my phone (screen cut) since an auto app update
So maybe something to understand why the gain pot is moving by itself (-2 / -3 / up to -10 db)
like if autogain is always on on this track
I maybe need to check with the real cq app on a PC computer
Hi Danz.
I was confused about auto set and auto detect gain. I thought the AG indicator in Red indicated the state of the Auto Gain but clearly the box itself has to show on or off. What I haven’t checked is that if you use auto detect to set the gain, I’m sure I read in the manual that Auto gain remains active. However not sure that the ON / OFF button status changes. Could be the question to clarify?
David
I can confirm that the AUTO GAIN feature was activated on some tracks, and caused the mix to changes. I think this is the issue in this topic. I probably activated it myself in the past, or not. I don’t know. I was not aware of this because the CQ app doesn’t work on my phone anymore (resizing problem) and the Mixing Station App was not showing the AUTO GAIN feature
