Dante Name Support

I was just wondering if there’s any reason why channel names don’t run through Dante? Like is it software/hardware limitations? Is it something that just hasn’t had enough requests to put the effort in to?

I run Dante out of my SQ to my ME-U and would love to have my SQ populate my ME-U/ME-1s as well as my Dante controller. I was wondering if there’s anything in the works to make something like this happen?

Dante uses a Dante Transmitter’s Dante name among other things to identify itself. If the Dante transmitter’s name is changed, the Dante routing is lost, since the receiver would no longer be able to ‘find’ the transmitter that’s routed to it. This is particularly problematic if the Dante transmitter is multi-casting; For example, if there are two mixers in play, sharing Dante transmitters (eg; FoH & Mons sharing Wireless receivers), which mixer’s channel naming should Dante use?

Image Mons mixer recalling a scene and everyone loses their Dante routings because the Dante names changed during recall…

That actually makes a ton of sense! Thanks @wesley-curtisme-com

I’m not familiar with Sq or ME specifically. If there was an ApI for the ME side one could read the console names, (optionally) update the Dante names , and then update the names on the Me.

The Dante update could disrupt audio temporarily, and the program would have to repatch anything broken by the name change.

I use KLANG and take a slightly different approach. Most names a static for me most times. It is only my vocals that change. I have automation that give me a table of my vocal mics, I assign the names (and IEM pack) for each. And then I push those updates to dLive, Klang and reaper. (Also to Shure but it is rarely looked at).
