I’m noticing that when I patch the direct outputs to the USB (USB-B), when the level on the console is 0dB I only get -18dB on the DAW. The output trim on the console is set to 0dB. Is this normal, a problem with the DAW or a problem with the console? The DAW Is Cakewalk Sonar by Bandlab. Thank you.
This is normal.
The metering the DAW uses 0dB as a maximum, while the desk has 0dB at -18 of the max to allow plenty of headroom.
If you clip on the DAW, you can go back and do it again - if you clip while live in a PA while recording, you’re stick with it.
@The Cat
Both are working absolutely correctly.
Raise the signal level in the DAW after you have recorded it.
