If there were option flags like “director.exe -connect 192.168.1.70”
or an option in the GUI to auto-connect that would be awesome. I already automatically start director at boot, but the autoconnect would take it a step further. This would mean my computer would always be ready to control the mix. Important considering if a power outage caused the computer to restart, I wouldn’t have to wait 1-2 minutes for director to fire up and connect.
Whats funny is, that not only do I not want Director to do this…currently I wish surfaces didn’t auto-connect.
The reason is that if you have multiple mixracks on a network and multiple users, this all goes to heck real fast.
We have 9 stages at our venue. Currently, only two of these stages have mixracks permanently installed, the rest are moved around. Surfaces can change depending on the specific task. Currently, surfaces connect to the last mixrack they where connected to…regardless if they are connected directly via GigaACE. As you can imagine this creates all sorts of issues when you have a bunch of audio engineers on staff.
Maybe if they re-thought the entire connection process, but for now I would hate if the tacked more stuff on.
@runes - I can see your point but this could be an option that needs to be turned on. I for one, would love this feature for when I only have a single surface and mixrack.
