I am a dLive user running a C3500 surface alongside an ME personal mixing system for a stage with a rotating roster of musicians. To significantly improve workflow efficiency and reduce stage prep time, I would love to propose two major software/firmware feature updates. The first request focuses on performer management at the console, and the second focuses on remote configuration of the ME-1 personal mixers from a laptop.
PART 1: dLive Performer-Based Channel Library (C3500 Surface)
Currently, updating a channel for a specific, rotating person requires digging into global Libraries or managing complex partial Scenes. I propose adding a fast, accessible drop-down allocation menu directly on the channel processing strip (Input Channels, Auxes, and IEM mixes).Performer Drop-Down for Inputs (e.g., Vocal Mic 8): A quick-access menu on the strip where I can instantly select a performer’s profile. Selecting “Singer A” would automatically recall their saved preamp gain, EQ, gate, compressor, and specific monitor send preferences for that mic.Performer Drop-Down for IEM Mixes / Aux Outputs: A matching drop-down on the Aux master or monitor bus strip. Selecting a performer instantly recalls their preferred mix levels (their personal baseline mix balance) alongside their output EQ and limiting settings.Dynamic Drag-and-Drop (or Fast Copy) for IEM Reassignments: On a live stage, hardware changes happen fast. If a vocalist suddenly has to swap from physical IEM pack 3 to physical IEM pack 4 due to a wireless issue, I want the ability to simply drag-and-drop or quickly copy/paste a performer’s complete saved mix profile from one physical Aux/IEM strip to another right from the touchscreen interface.
PART 2: Networked Web Interface for ME-1 Remote Configuration (Preset & Label Management)
Currently, managing individual ME-1 personal mixers requires physically walking up to each hardware unit on stage to manually save, name, label keys, or recall user presets. Scrolling through characters on the ME-1 dial to type names is incredibly tedious.I propose a software/firmware update that introduces an IP-based Networked Remote Management Web Interface for the ME system, accessible via a web browser on a laptop (MacBook/Windows).Remote Naming and Channel Labeling from Laptop: Instead of using the ME-1 rotary dial to type out names letter-by-letter, an engineer should be able to log into the web GUI from their laptop and quickly type out custom names for the station itself (e.g., “Stage Right Keys”) as well as text labels for individual channel keys.Virtual Stage Mapping: The interface would display a visual layout or list of all active personal mixers detected on the network.Remote Mix & Preset Recall: When different musicians are scheduled to play on specific days, the engineer could use the laptop web interface to instantly select a user’s saved mix profile from a library and remotely push/recall it directly to that specific physical personal mixer on the stage.
Why These Combined Features Matter:
For front-of-house engineers managing churches, regional theater, or corporate events with revolving rosters, these updates would dramatically cut down soundcheck and setup times. Decoupling the physical hardware/inputs from the individual performer’s processing profile and monitor labels allows for an incredibly agile, human-centric mixing workflow.Thank you for continuing to improve both the dLive and ME platforms!
