Filter Recall library

Afternoon: I have a big musical coming up, 40 radios + 30 piece orchestra.

We have four full piano rehearsals and then three full rehearsals with the band.

I want to be able to record scenes / cues for dialogue & songs but the problem I see is recalling these when the band are added in, I may have several cues in one number but the band levels are likely to jump from cue to cue until I get it all finalised - seems easier to be able to set a cue to only change radio mic levels or occasionally push and instrument in the mix for solo’s.

I see the recall filter as a solution but don’t have the time to jump into every cue and change the blocking between radios + band - any suggestions how to for the want of a description a libraries or scene that I can set up and assign to an action - “update radios” or “update band”.

I know the copy filter action exists - which may be the solution at the moment - but it would be great if we can store filter settings to a library for easier recall during manic rehearsals.

From a theatre point of view it would also be nice to be able to set a global crossfade time - eg 1s - help hide the missed cues

I have done this very scenario before in a dLive - 40+ radios, 30ish orchestra, piano rehearsals in between.

Actors were run on DCAs, with assignments scene by scene as dictated by the score. Entrances and exits were all manual using the DCA faders, general levels for actors were set with the channel fader so that all DCA levels were the same.

Most songs and dialogue scenes were filtered to recall as little as necessary, and a master actors scene and a master orchestra scene recalled general settings. Recalling an “orchestra is piano” scene could allow a piano rehearsal without changing with orchestra settings, since these were generally not in the song scenes.

As I recall, getting the filters all correct was a bit of a bother. I can imagine that some scores might not be consistent enough to work this way either.

The concept of using a recall filter library is a really good idea that I hadn’t even considered before. I would agree that it would be a nice addition to the scene management system.

That being said, I think you can effectively make your own library of recall filters by using the existing scene system. It’s not as elegant of a solution as a true library would be, but at least you can implement it right away.

First, save a block of scenes for this use (just to make the management of this easier, not for any technical reason). Set the recall filter up like you would want a “base template” and then name the scene with a good name and description that tells what recall filters are active/inactive. Save the scene and lock it.

Now you can simply copy/paste the recall filter anytime that you want to use them on another scene. You will never actually recall that scene, just use it to copy and paste the filters to other scenes.

Also an update recall filter function would be great, to enable/disable a single scope in multiple scenes.
