Would it be possible to tweak the UI such that when the gain tracking feature is enabled, the assignable knobs above the faders become the trim knob instead of the fixed gain knob, for the surface using the tracking? Maybe even on a per channel basis?

You might be on to something there… I’ll have to pull up director next time I get the laptop out and have a look, as this will undoubtedly be a distant memory when I next see a physical surface.
Though I don’t think I get to see the assignable encoders on director. It might have to be a surface experiment in a couple of weeks.
Since this is even possible with Avantis Director (even channel by channel), it should also work with dLive.

Not only does it work on dLive, it was the exact same on iLive back in the day.

I remember the preamp on surface button now. Must have just completely avoided my eyesight during the time I wanted it. Will definitely (….) remember it next time! Sounds like exactly the thing I wanted, aside from it being an automatic thing with gain tracking enabled.
Not a common occurrence for me, we’re still in the analog split world here, with most of my annual jobs being festivals and having to manage visiting desks/racks/splits.
