iLive Editor for Linux

Good day,

is or will be available a version of the iLive editor for linux?

Hi Lesak

We can provide a version which will work in online mode providing your Linux distro has a V1.5 or greater JVM installed.

If you require a full Editor for Linux which will also work offline, this would need to be specially created against the specific distro you are using and the specific libraries you have available.

You could discuss this further by opening a help desk ticket.

Both of the above are not officially supported so YMMV depending on your system.

Tee Hee I have opened a can of worms again, sorry Andy [ ]

Honest I did not know anyone else would ask for the editor on Linux.

Mr B.

Hi Andy,

can you give me the version to work online? Please. I now use Ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop. It will be gret if will be in the future available offline version.

Hello Andy,

I would love a copy too, i also use ubuntu 9.10. For offline i use the windows version, but in a live situation a linux (starts up in 20 seconds…) laptop as a “next to the stage, just for safety”-system is great!

Hello All

What have I started.

It’ll take us a while, so please be patient for now, ill get back to you when we’ve got a Linux package together.

I should probably say again, this isn’t officially supported by us, but the theory is the code should just run as is.

hello again,

That’s what i like about A&H… with other brands you can only get the official release AND you have to wait for a while!

Or you get an update (won’t mention the name of the firm, it was a V3 update) and your old shows don’t work…

cheers,

gijsbert

There you go Andy, Ubuntu 9.1 for me also.

The on the side of the surface just in case works for me.

Also the fact I can wander around and tweak the system EQ on the hoof as it were.

Thanks I to can wait.

Ubuntu, count me in also. My laptop with Linux launches quicker and works more stable.

A&H team - it was very nice to meet you at P+S in Frankfurt

P.S. Apple is introducing new gadget (iTouch?) with touchscreen. Do you think that Mac version of iLive soft will be compatibile with that?

Hello All

An update for you all.

We’re releasing an Editor for x86 Linux with V1.62 which is imminent; keep an eye on the web site for more details.

It runs in online mode only, and can’t do firmware updates, but apart from that is functionally equal to other platforms.

To run the installer you may have to change its access permissions.

From Gnome, right click on the installer, properties, permissions and tick the allow execute box.

From a terminal chmod 777 iLive Editor 1.62-Linux-x86-Install should do the trick.

I’ve tested it on Ubuntu 9.10 and FC11, which both appear to work.

Its not an officially supported release, instead probably aimed at tech enthusiasts. Good luck and let us know how you get on !

Cheers

[ ] Eee by gum I am all excited now to try it Andy, not sure I should describe myself as a Tech Enthusiast just disenchanted with Microsoft.

I wait with bated breath though.

thanks a lot for Linux version  It works well on my Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Edition (eee PC).

Could we expect soon the version that works also with the mix rack only and perhaps in the offline mode ?

best regards

OK I admit to feeling a bit smug I too with a bit of much appreciated help have editor running on my Acer netbook (way below spec so a little slow) Ubuntu Reload (based on 9.10) very impressed big thanks to the team in Kernow you would not get this level of support from other manufacturers me thinks.

Hi Andreas

The Linux release is designed for people who are Linux enthusiasts, and we don’t offer formal support for this platform.

You were redirected to this thread, and on the previous page there are instructions on how to get the binary installer to run.

If the instructions are unfamiliar to you, you could try googling around for more general linux Q & A’s

I am a Ubuntu 10.4 user (a Linux using since 1994). I have several close friends who are Java programmers. Any chance you could use some help adding functionality to the Linux version?

I am considering a iLive system and have a friend with one, but am disappointed I can’t use the Linux version of the software to control just the mixrack.

Since Java is suppose to be “write once - run anywhere” code, can you explain the difficulties in creating a full function Linux version?

Thanks
