Hi.
During last night’s gig, our guitarist’s channel on my Qu24 changed from local source (red) to Qu-drive (blue).
He uses a Line 6 pod HD500 straight into the desk, and all through the first set it was working perfectly.
As I muted the desk for our break, he asked me to make a slight adjustment to his in-ears. I un-muted the desk and found that his guitar wasn’t producing any sound. Went through all the usual checks, cables etc without success.
Eventually discovered, almost by accident, that the channel source had changed. I’m assuming that it had changed, as I figure if had always been set to Qu-drive, it would never have worked in the first place.
I’ve not yet had a chance to look at the desk in the cold light of day.
Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this.
Cheers for now.
Is there anything connected to the mixer with the USB B connector or ethernet that could have sent a MIDI command?
Any scene changes going on that might inadvertently include a source change for that channel?
For that particular gig, only local XLR inputs were in use.
No scene changes, but I did bring up the scene from our previous gig there which I had recorded.
I did listen back to these recordings from the USB disk at the time, and had the channel sources for the relevant channels set to Qu-drive.
What I don’t understand is; if I had inadvertantly left one of the channels set to Qu-drive, it would not have worked at all.
Perhaps I’m wrong about that.
Yeah, that is right.
Well, I’ve had a bit of a poke around with the mixer today and my conclusion is: operator error.
Now I realise how easy it is to get to the channel source screen; Fn button and the slightest touch of the screen, it may now be a case of me not paying enough attention to what I was doing.
I suppose that is one of the consequences of being a musician and the sound guy at the same time.
At least it means there is nothing wrong with the mixer and it won’t happen again unless, that is, I fail to learn my lesson.
Thanks for your replies.
TBH, there are at least two touches needed to change patching. One for selecting the channel and one for the change of the source.
Yes, that’s true.
I possibly had the channel selected to adjust the volume in the FoH.
