Basic question, when you use an effect as an insert, do you only get one instance, or can you use that effect as a separate insert on multiple channels?
Each effect unit can only be inserted on a single channel (or used a mix-return once)
An inserted effect applies only to the channel into which it’s inserted. To apply a given effect to several channels, use non-insert mode, create an Fx mix and return said Fx to whatever mix(s) you want.
To answer the question as you asked it.:-
You can insert the same effect on more than one channel, but each insertion uses up one of the FX engines. I regularly insert up to 4 instances of De-Esser on 4 different speech mic channels. That only leaves me 4 FX engines for all other FX I want.
There seems to be a slight conflict in these answers.
I have an SQ+ ordered, and I want to use the expander on several vocal channels. I don’t want it on a group, as the (several) individual singers sing at different times. It makes sense that each instance would use up an engine.
The expanders are not “effects” but, like the channel compressors, are part of the (DEEP) channel processing.
Perfect, thanks a lot
Yes, DEEP processors are different things.

I hadn’t thought about that the effects and DEEP processes are treated differently. Good to know.
