Integrating SQ5 as part of MADI chain

Hi, new to this forum and the A&H ecosystem. I would like to use my existing MADI stage box rig consisting of RME XTC+RME12MIC+Ferrofish Pulse 16MX (this is used for monitor outs) as a stage box for my newly acquired SQ5 mixer which I am planning on using for FOH duties during live gigs. Note, the above MADI rig is currently connected via optical MADI to an RME UFXIII (used at the FOH end connected to a laptop running RME’s TotalMixFX) but I would like to integrate an SQ5 to the setup for tactile control and to take advantage of the SQ5’s signal processing. SQ5 is fitted with a MADI card and connected to the UFXIII vial MADI BNC cables. All other units in the chain are connected via MADI optical.

I have managed to config the MADI rig and SQ5 in as far as to achieving in-sync on all units and I can get signal routed in and out of the SQ5 where I want it to. However, and even though signal is routed through the MADI chain to the SQ5, I have no control over it at the SQ5 end. Nothing happens to the signal no matter what I press or turn on the SQ5. Weirdly the signal looks as if it’s getting affected - when turning the SQ5 preamp pot for example for that particular channel (I can see the volume change on the SQ5 screen) - but the actual sound reaching my test monitor speaker which is connected to the Ferrofish Pulse 16 (last unit in the MADI chain used for stage monitoring) remains unaffected. Any fader or pot adjustments or pressing the mute buttons, leave the signal completely unaffected. Signal is just passing through the SQ5 at the moment, that’s all.

Is anybody here using their A&H desk in this manner as part of a MADI chain? Any advice on how I can get this setup working would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Stavros

SQ can’t control the RME preamps.

Optical or coaxial connection doesn’t really matter.

Maybe your patch is wrong?
Make sure the MADI out isn’t mirroring the inputs.
