An IEM Distro that would be rackmounted backstage with all of your IEMs and can be soft patched to any ME’s within the system via any ME’s in the system***TOP PRIORITY
Better Preamp - Current ME-1’s always sound so muddy
64 channels or more
Touch Screen
Mirror Mix
Remote Mix
Sharing/Pushing a Mix from another unit
Built in intercom system
Global and/or per individual unit EQ on individual channels
Sharable aux input is a nice feature
Reverb to be added to individual channels as well as the entire mix
Dual unit are beneficial for those needed to save some money like churches
The ability to have the IP Director Out insert point to be post preamp, but pre digital trim on dLive
I assume you really meant to say better headphone amp? The ME system doesn’t have any (microphone) preamps.
Can you explain #1 a little more? Are you asking for a better user interface for patching the ME system? (Which I completely agree with if that is what you are saying).
The ME system is certainly “long in the tooth.” It definitely could use some updates and you hit on a lot of good suggestions!
Please see my feature request, asking Allen & Heath to get back on the wagon updating the software etc as its been more than 10 years since the last update.
I’m told it’s a very small team (in the single digits) doing the software development, but now that UltraFX and the SQ+ is out of the way, surely some resources could be spent tweaking the software, even if it was through a paid upgrade.
My responses to yours
I feel like the ME-1 is designed for two markets/ users.
a) Situations where a lot of ME units are required, (such as orchestras, large bands etc) and it would be impractical or not suitable to have an engineer operate the multiple mixes.
b) Users using desks with low bus counts (QU, SQ CQ etc), and therefore are using the ME units as a way to gain extra monitoring channels without upgrading the desk
Why not just mount the IEM transmitter underneath the ME unit? or use the dLive desk for IEMs? If I had a dLive, i’d probably just move my musos to an iPad or use the ME-1s for my musicals where i have an orchestra.
I have seen artists use them (Cory Wong) as a mixer for Wireless IEM, but not sure of this is a common use case? What is your use case here?
The ME-1’s don’t have a preamp… unless you mean the headphone amplifier?
I’ve found their sonic performance to be adequate, yet also proportional to the quality of the source and the headphones/IEM’s used.
How are you sending your channels to the units? post preamp, post PEQ etc?
I opt for post preamp, as my mantra is they should hear what the raw sounds like, so they can think, oooh maybe my playing, singing, or mic technique needs some work, or maybe i should ask the engineer for a different microphone?
Perhaps a 96k version of the product is needed? But I feel like most people seeking this level of fidelity, either have (or should have) a dedicated engineer who would do a far better job at mixing, then a musician or vocalist pulling double duty
would be nice, but it would need more than 16 selection buttons. and thus requires a significant change in form factor.
I just send groups in this instance
I would favour having physical faders instead of trying to emulate an iPad?
Do you mean mirror a mix from the console? Why not just run a line from the console\stage box then or daisy chain from the IEM transmitter?
This would be nice to be able to fix someones mix remotely. although this would likely require that the audio mix from the me-1 to be available to the person remotely changing the mix.
This can already be done (pretty quickly) using a USB stick, but i’m assuming you mean over the cat5e?
Already kind of achievable if you had the channels double patched or have them muted at the console with the IP direct out set to pre-mute or pre dca-mute.
I think the new behringer one has a dedicated intercom mic input on each unit, although it seems like it would be a lot of extra setup to run separate mics to each person, simply for the purposes of talking..
Whats your use case for this?
if using dLive, why not just have their ears come from the desk and double patch the channels so this can be achieved?
One other way to do this, would be to have a bluetooth receiver that anyone can connect to, feed in through a channel into the ME-1 units.
This could be achieved by adding the fx returns from the desk as assignments to the ME-1’s?
This is a good idea, although i think i’d like to see the me-500 redesigned as a physical fader device, designed for this purpose, as having two mixes physically tied to one device, might get old after a while if one of them needs/ wants to move to another part of the stage.
Is this an issue just for dLive? or all consoles?, I’ll have to test it on my SQ at some point.
Could you not simply assign the talkback bus on dLive, to the me-1??
I can (and currently do) send my SQ’s talkback mic to the ME-1’s.
Could it be that you need to use a tie-line from the surface, to the Mixrack to then send it to the ME-1 units?
