Qu16 q-drive not showing, USB on compputer not showing.
I recently bought a Qu16 second hand and when i tried to upgrade the firmware from 1.97 to 1.99 i found the q-drive not responding to whatever USB key i inserted. i tried USB sticks from all sizes en age, none were seen by the desk.
Then i tried the USB streaming option on a computer, I have both windows and Mac and none of the showed any Allen & Heath device. (i also have the Qu24 and that desk is recognized by a computer)
So my question is: how do i get the desk up-and running again and to the latest firmware?
It’s quite possible that your USB port or also the entire USB hardware is defective.
But before you consider (or have to consider) a repair, I would suggest trying a forced firmware update.
To do this, format one of your (perhaps smaller) USB sticks in your QU-24 (it would ensure it also should works in the QU-16).
Store only the file Qu16UpdtV1_99_4583.QUU to this USB stick - using your Windows PC.
Insert the USB stick into your switched-off QU-16.
Turn on the consol while holding down the USB button (under Preamp) and the In button (under HPF) until you see on the screen indicating that an update is possibly in progress.
You might get lucky.
Thank you for the quick response. I have tried the actions as described but alas no response from the stick. the USB q-drive led also remains lit even when the USB stick is removed so i am afraid the entire USB unit is broken.
Hi, you must look into download area. There is a list of useable usb sticks. Only this sticks work!! I looked into, found out what stick is affordable, bought it. Then format the stick with the mixer and than it works. So I have a stick with a key ring “Only for QU16”, which is only for firmware QU16. If you want I must find out the correct name of my USB stick.
Sorry for my doubts.
Perhaps you could post the link here to this list of useable USB sticks for firmware updates (not for multitrack recordings with their demanding requirements), please?
But regardless, I would really expect that a USB stick that was obviously successfully formatted in the QU-24 should be recognized in a QU-16, assuming its USB hardware is working.
