I use the SQ6 mixer in live settings and really appreciate the console’s overall flexibility. However, when managing large bands, I often find myself using the maximum 8 available DCAs.
To optimize workflow and improve mix efficiency in complex situations, having 10 or 12 DCAs would be extremely helpful.
I would therefore like to ask if it is technically possible to extend the number of DCAs in a future firmware update.
Thank you for your attention and for the ongoing development of the SQ series.
DCAs and groups are two different things and work differently. From my perspective, they’re not interchangeable. Groups lower the sum of the signal, while DCAs are like lowering the faders directly.
Generally speaking, I would assume that your request for more DCAs would be easy to implement, as it would essentially only involve extended remote control of faders and no processing or routing at all.
But as long as it isn’t implemented and the three limitations of groups mentioned don’t bother you, I think you could use them in the SQ as an alternative to missing DCAs without noticing any difference.
Whether you lower the levels before or after summing shouldn’t make a difference in my opinion, since the crucial level relationships are the same in both cases - or have I missed something else?
