On Soundcraft VI desks, you can bring banks of channels temporarily to the strips via the screen meter bridge. Touch the bank and it will be on the strip until you touch it again.
On Yamaha desks there are +/- symbols at the channel name in the top corner, to select the next/previous channel of the complete channel list (not the strip). Like that you can access a ganged channel that is not on surface or other I/O channels, without having this particular strip on any bank.
Both are very handy features imho.
