SQ Dante question

Morning all. I use an SQ6 with SQ Dante and several DT168s. I just installed an SQ Dante card in my SQ5 with the idea of touring it as a spare console. Obviously I‘ll load the SQ6 show into the SQ5 and re-jig the channel strips. What can I expect when I connect the SQ5 to the Dante network in place of the SQ6: will it just get picked up as a direct replacement with all subscriptions intact? Or will it be seen as a new device and need to be re-subscribed? I’ll try it of course, but I won’t be able to until a show day so it’d be good to know what to expect. Many thanks.

I think the routing in the SQ console will work fine between the two consoles “sharing” a show file. Both consoles will be routing the Dante I/O through the “card slot” rather than to a specific Dante card.

However routing in Dante Controller will not be the same. Dante will see the SQ5’s Dante card as a unique and independant Dante device (because it is). You will need to make sure that you go in a route the new SQ5’s Dante card the same way that you are currently routing the SQ6’s Dante card. It will be fine to have more than one Dante device with the same routing, but you will certainly need to update your Dante Controller routing before the SQ5 will see any Dante audio.

Many thanks for the heads up. I’ll just screen shot the SQ6 routing in advance and it should be quite straightforward to set up. Thankfully the new DC has a larger grid, so my old eyes can see it!

you can save dante routing presets as XML files for a quick turn-around.

I actually don’t know what happens when you have two A&H consoles both with DT168 inputs routed to them? There is nothing preventing you from patching a DT168 to two dante cards, at least not on the dante side.
I’m not sure if both desks would see the DT168 controls correctly (gain, pad, 48v) or not… or if it would cause issues.

On the output side, you can’t patch two sources to the same destination in Dante, so that would require re-patching regardless.

So not so secret about Dante…

Subscriptions are made by the Reciever, looking for a transmitter by DNS name and channel name. Thats it.

So name your DT168 the same as the Dante card in the other SQ, and ya its kinda “magic”. But remember its noth DNS name AND channel name.

Also the two same named devices cannot both be on the network at the same time.
