To link an SQ to a one surface DLive C class using S link, what do I need on the DLive side?
A GigaAce connection.
to be clear a unused GigaACE connection, that means a fibreACE or gigaACE card
or using the Surface link…
But in theory also DX port should work or is it coming later? I know it does not work in practice, just checked.

Update: it works also from DX port of dLive, just the patching is shown with zebra square as if the patch would not be possible. And I had to wait 2 minutes to sync.

No, it is not working correctly- channels are shuffled and repeated. Even with diagonal patch ip 1, 5, 9 and 13 has same signal, and 4, 8, 12, 16 are silent. So it seems next firmware could solve it.

Ahh! You got my hopes up for nothing. I just sent a proposal to the powers that be for an SQ and a gigaAce card for our DLive. Is there some hard evidence this DX capability is coming?
There are no plans at the moment to support syncing an SQ from a DX port.

Boah that would be fine. Connect the SQ via DX port to pass the inputs from the dLive to the SQ and also use the SQ as an input extender for the dLive. That would be great.

Yes, I also think if SQ can communicate with DX168 and DX32 it would make sense to be able to connect it to DX port of dLive.
Also, a limitation to 32 ch of SLink is not a good thing, if gigaAce is used as signal source.
The SLink port supports up to 128 Channels in and 128 Channels out.

Had the same problem. If you press at SLink several times the patch window will step through the four pages for 1-32, 33-64, 65-96 and 97-128.
For the IO Card it will be the same.
This is something that has to be written in red across the console. I prefer endless scroll instead.
Sometimes in very rare situations is reading the manual a proper way to increase the knowledge about the product. This is one of those situations. 
Well, I judge the product by ability to find basic things on your own in reasonable time- imagine you’re in festival where local crew is no help. The icon displaying pages should be more clear, or maybe a brief dialog “Displaying page N of M”
