Question:
I have a SQ5 & two AR2412’s. I would like to ‘mirror’ the AR2412’s in two separate locations in the same venue. The ‘band’ will only play in one location at any given time - same band just one of two different locations in the same venue.
Can I just put a ethernet splitter on the ‘dSNAKE’? …Or will this cause problems in the future?
You cannot “split” any of the proprietary A&H digital audio protocols. They do not conform to the TCP/IP network protocol, so an ethernet splitter would not work.
There are two options available IMHO:
You can purchase an “SLink I/O” card for the SQ and plug one stagebox into the built in SLink port and one stage box into the SLink I/O card. This will allow you to leave everything plugged in at all times, but you will have to route the channel sources correctly depending on which box is being used. (ie a kick drum plugged into input 1 on each stage box would appear as either “SLink port input 1” or “SLink I/O card input 1” (which are not the same routing) depending on which box was currently being used)
You can simply physically plug the stage box needed into the built in SLink port on the SQ. This means physically unplugging the “wrong” box and plugging in the “correct box” each time, but if the band uses the same inputs on the stage box (ie the kick drum is always plugged into input 1 on both stage boxes), then you don’t need to change your routing each time (because the kick drum plugged into input 1 on each stage box would always appear as “SLink Card Input 1” - regardless of which stage box was actually plugged into the console).
Which option works best depends on your situation and the people who will be using the equipment. Obviously the second option doesn’t require any additional hardware/cost.

You could set up two scenes each with the needed patching changes, use safes and blocks to keep other changes out of the scene recall.
The second stage box would be connected to the first stage box expander port.

unfortunately you cannot use the expander port to connect one AR2412 into another AR2412, you can use it to connect into an AB168 or an AR84 but unfortunately the dSnake protocol only allows for 40 channels of input maximum. Philhobbs, I would recommend following Brian’s advice…
Yea I was thinking the SQ has the channel count and I’ve plugged my AB168 into my 2412 many times!!
If you don’t want to be reaching behind the mixer to change cables just get the S Link card.
I believe if you want a “Y” configuration and don’t want to burn the card slot you can use a DX Hub.
Your two boxes are converted from DX to GX; 128 channel capacity, then you can save two scenes: one using Box A to feed your 48 channels and one using Box B.
