We purchased a system that contains the QU 16 as the board. We have 2 EAW Subs, 2 EAW Mid/High Cabinets and 2 EAW Monitors. 3- Crown Powered Amps. It came with 2 large EQ racks (1 Set for Mains and 1 Set For Monitors) and a Rane AC 22 Crossover. It was prewired in boxes and I think that some connections are corroded or bad. Anyways do I need the external EQ’s? Do I need the Rane Crossover? If needed we have them but don’t want to overcomplicate if not needed and can consolidate into 1 rolling rackmount unit rather than 2. I know this is probably dumb questions but just need some advise to re setup the system so that It is simple to operate yet can can a good sound. Any help or advice on setup recommendations is appreciated. I can answer anymore questions regarding as well. Thanks in advance.
You will not need the external EQ’s, you need the AC22 crossover.
If your not familiar with setting up the mixer, crossover and non powered speakers maybe look at bringing someone in who knows that kind of system to get it up set up and going.
What model are the Crown power amps?
Will this be used as a portable system or a installed system?
Where are you located?
Crown K2 Amps
Portable System
South Georgia
SO I just need to leave off the EQ’s but include the Rane and Setup That Way?
Thanks.
Yes.
Some Crown amps have built in processing, not the K2’s
What model are the EAW cabinets?
Signal chain for the main speakers would be…mixer to crossover, crossover low out to amp for the subwoofers, crossover high out to the amp for the mid high boxes.
The crossover frequency start about 100hz.
For the monitors…mix out to the an amp channel for mix 1 and mix out to the other amp
channel for mix 2. On the monitor mix outs I would set the low band on the parametric EQ
to be a low shelf and set somewhere around 80hz to 100hz.
EAW LA325
They are actually full range.
With those you could do the crossover between them and the subs lower around 70hz.
What model are the subs?
Have you tested the cabinets?
The two mid range drivers in the 325’s are kind of easy to blow if someone is really pushing the system.
LA325’s can be biamped. See if you can find/afford an EAW processor (UX4400/3600 ? something like that) with the greybox settings in it.
The EAW site has some suggested settings for those speakers.
