Up till now I’ve been using a hardware mixer to feed my mic and instruments in STEREO (I teach music online) into a Behringer USB interface, and from then into my PC. I plug my headphones into the Behringer and can get a mix of what’s leaving my mixer + what’s coming back from the PC (my student, on the other end of the Zoom / Teams meeting).

I’d like to replace this setup with my CQ-18t, and can plug headphones into the “listen” to hear my mic / instruments, or hit “listen” on the USB return to hear my student, but I can’t work out how to have a mix of both into my headphones. Obviously I don’t want to have my student’s voice (USB return) faded up on the mixer otherwise that will send their voice into the mix, and back to them, creating a loop.

Any hints on how I can solve this? I imagine it involves some sort of “submix” of CQ-18t main output and USB return, just going into my headphones.

This should be possible by using two mixes, one with everything (for you) and one without the PC sound (for your student). I suggest the following:

Use “Main LR” for mixing everything and use “Out 1/2” (stereo linked) for mixing for Zoom. If you need it in more Detail, try the following steps:

1. Go to config-\>Outputs, select Out1 and press “Stereo Link” and “Post Fader”. You can also rename the output to something like “Zoom” if you like.
2. Switch to the USB/SD tab. Put Stream Mode to “Stereo” and for “Stereo L/R” select “Out1/2”. Also, a sample rate of 48kHz should be sufficient, but its probably not necessary.
3. Go to “fader” and raise all faders of inputs that you want to hear yourself (through Main LR). This includes the input channels of your microphone and your instruments as well as the USB input from your PC.
4. press “sends to” and select “Out1/2”. The background of the faders should now be blue. Raise all faders to 0db except the ones that you don’t want to send to Zoom (e.g. the USB input). Since you selected “post fader” before, this ensures that you send the same mix to Zoom as you hear via Main LR, but without the sources you don’t want.
5. hit “listen” for Main LR or don’t hit “listen” at all to hear the Main LR mix through your headphones.

I hope this helps and I didn’t miss anything.
