Hi everyone!
I’m a regular SQ5 user, and I’m planning to buy an SQ6+ as well. I’d like to link the two consoles together using two M-SQ-DANT64 cards.
My first question is: once the two cards are installed, will they communicate with each other (patching/routing) over a direct CAT5e cable connection, or is a network switch/router required?
My second question is: is Dante Controller required to configure the routing, or can it be done automatically or directly from the I/O page on the consoles?
You will need the Dante Controller to make the “patch” between the two consoles, once that is done you will not need it unless something needs to be changed.
(if you patch all 64x64 between the consoles, you can just change patch in the I/O tab for the card to change what is send on what Dante connection)
I think you can connect a computer witrh the controller to one console, and make sure the card is not in Redundant mode, then do the same on the second console and you should be able to simply connect the two consoles together, and have the computer on a free port too.
(usually I run redundant so it is very rare for me to run non redundant mode)

Thank You stenie! I will do that.
Scuse me please, i was write your name wrong
Thank You STEINE !
You can directly connect the two Dante cards together. The cards actually function as a network switch, so you can also plug the computer running Dante Controller directly into one of the spare Dante ports on one of the cards and control everything without requiring an external router or switch. In fact, as long as you have enough ports on the Dante card to support the desired devices, I would suggest NOT using an external switch or router in order to keep the Dante “network” as simple as possible. The more complicated the network becomes, the more opportunity there is for something to not work correctly or be incompatible with the Dante protocol.
As Steine noted, you will need to use Dante Controller to patch the I/O from one Dante card to the other Dante card (and vice versa). You will also have to patch the desired I/O in each console to/from the installed Dante card in the console.
The internal SQ patching gets the audio to/from the installed Dante card… The Dante Controller patching gets the audio from one Dante device to another Dante device (ie the Dante card in the other console). Obviously you’ll need to patch the I/O in both consoles and the Dante Controller app for everything to flow properly.
Thank you for the detailed and useful help, you too Brian-1!
