Adding 3 more stereo FX to the CQ12T

This is a tutorial for those who would like to know how to add 3 more stereo FX slots to the CQ12 T.

Prerequisite:

-the CQ12T must be hooked to a PC using USB-B
-you’ll need a DAW or a VST host program on the PC
-you’ll need some VST FX.
-this works well with reverb, delay and all time base FX in parallel if you can set your FX to full WET only.
-you can use it for compressions and EQ but you’ll get the horrible latency compound effect depending on your system latency (and as far as I know it will be always present and noticeable even with the slowest possible latency settings).

All hooked up,

-in your DAW, set a track with your CQ12T input.
-set 3 other FX tracks (choose one or more VST you like) with output to be 11/12, 13/14 or 15/16 of the CQ12T.
-in the CQ12T set the input source of ST1 (11/12) and BT (15/16) to be digital IN.
-USB (13/14) is digital IN by default.
-you might need to adjust the Trim for those channels and remove any Output in the DAW main L/R (or set its fader all down).
-last, in the DAW, route your input track to the FX tracks.

You now have in the CQ12T 3 new FX slots.
ST IN can be renamed from the CQ12T menu but you’ll need to use Mixing station to rename USB and BT.

Note also that you can also use any of the other inputs of the CQ12T (mono or stereo) to route your DAW FX to.
Just set them to be digital IN in the config menu.
This is just a matter of whatever you need or not the ST IN, BT or USB for what they are meant for in the CQ12T.

Do you think it is possible to apply this principle to a module that has effects and usb audio i/o like, say, a Roland Sp404 mk2 to even a P6?

No because the CQ serie USB-B is core audio and VDM/ASIO compliant only.
You need a computer or an ipad.

Yeah, I guess I was a little short on the concept :upside_down_face: (I do, however, understand the concept of “host” and “client” USB, etc.) Anyway, in my quest for a very compact live rig and, is it possible to run plugins on a small USB-C equipped iPad for additional effects? It would require, at minimum, a data+power adapter and a USB-C to B cable… Latency, etc.?

This is what I am working on right now.
I am using stage traxx 3 and working on with this option but I thing that it can only run AUV3 plugin in serie, not in parallel.
I am also testing some DAW on IPAD.

I’m thinking of getting a iPad Mini for this purpose (they’re on sale right now) as well other uses. There is a fair amount of information out there about using an iPad as an external effects processor, not necessarily with A&H, but useful nonetheless. For example, this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0Z7DuUfcXE
Let me know how you progress with this…

OK, took the plunge and got an iPad Mini on sale, ordered the Belkin Power+Data adapter and a USB-C to B cable. I’m starting my UAV3 collection with the Moogerfoogers (recommendations? …expecially reverb). Let me know what plugin hosts you are having success with. It will be useful even if running plugins in series is the only option, but I have a feeling there might be ways to do this as multi-channel…

Long time I didn’t update the subject.
I am currently trying Loopy Pro and Stage traxx 3 together on my Ipad USB hooked to the CQ12T.
I just wanted to have an extra ducking delay for some songs.
I have added NA Delay3000 AUv3 plugin into a bus in Loopy, routed that bus to a CQ input (set to digital) and all is working fine ( a part some bugs when I quite the app, it sometimes do not reconnect the audio).
So all is good, Stage traxx 3 is running alongside (split screen mode) with nearly no issue.
