Hi all
I’m seriously considering buying the new QU5. I engineer at a few small venues using my own PA. I’ve always used mainly analogue. The restrictions are getting more apparent these days. Limited monitor mixes (especially with IEM’s), great big heavy racks full of effects ( I’m getting a bit old!), an occasional drum sub mix desk etc. When we have a number of larger acts i end up taking a photo of the desk after each soundcheck for settings etc. All of this can go with the Qu5 and be replaced by a 10kg solution! I asked Keith from A+H and he suggested putting the request below on the forum. The Qu was originally designed for an easier transition from analogue to Digi and still is . My suggestion was to add the smart channels that are in the CQ range as a firmware update. This would be a nice transition tool. I can practice all i like without a band, but the day will come when I’ll be sitting in front of the QU 5 live for the first time. The smart channels would be a good starting point for the many newly available dynamics etc. There is always the possibly of ‘over cooking’ it all a bit at first. Also when that band tips up 1 hr late and you have a few mins to line check and do monitors (if you’re lucky) then it would be a very helpful starting point at least until I make some settings of my own. I think as a transition tool the QU5 would benefit greatly (at least initially) from the addition of smart Channels as they are a transition tool too.
Cheers RV
