Advice: Two Compressors on L/R Bus

I am running a compressor on the Main L/R bus of my SQ6 in a live recording scenario. It is set up as a parallel comp for the sound and really doesn’t do anything to protect from unexpected clipping.

Yes, I could turn down the Main L/R but I want a reasonable level to go to “tape” and OLs are rare (think timpani strike).

Any ideas on how to keep my current setup and add a “brick wall” limiter on the same output. Must be a way but I can’t think of it.

Thanks.

Doug

Do you have a spare matrix available?
Then you can use its compressor and send main to it.
And repatch the matrix outputs.

Thanks Tom. What are the thoughts on sending the Main L/R through another “stage” using a Matrix? Any loss of quality?

No. A matrix is simply offers another “stage” of processing and routing. There is no loss of audio quality simply by using another “stage” of processing.

It’s similar to sending an input to a group before sending it to the Main L/R mix. One way to think of it is like this" groups are mixes of inputs and matrixes are mixes of outputs.

Excellent clarification, Brian. Thanks!
