AHM32 with SQ5-AR2412

Hi!
I have an SQ5 and an AR2412, if I want to add an AHM32:
Question 1:
Will I need extra Slink cards in both SQ5 and AHM32 to connect? I would need two CAT6 cables to the stage…

Question 2:
Can I use the local inputs and outputs on the AHM32 just like any other input/output (adress them just like SQ locals and AR2412 by clicking the I/O-grid in the SQ?)

Question 3:
Can the AHM32 replace my DBX Venu360 speaker processor? (does it have complete crossover/eq/delay/limiting functions? Can I use it to protect my speakers by setting limiters with a volt meter?)
Thanks
Lars

  1. The built in port on the AHM32 or AHM16 is strickly for network data, not the SLink protocol. So yes, you will need two matching I/O cards - one for the SQ5 and one for the AHM32 (or 16). They don’t have to be SLink cards however. You could also use two Dante or Waves, or Madi cards. Think carefully about this choice because the SQ console only has one I/O card slot. You don’t want to buy two SLink cards only to decide sometime in the future that you really need a Dante card to connect other I/O too which would cause you to have to replace the SLinks cards with Dante…

Please note, if you use the AHM64, it has a built in SLink port already and so then you would only need one SLink card for the SQ5 (or two matching I/O cards if you wanted to use something other than the SLink protocol to link them).

  1. Yes, any local I/O on the AHM will be available throughout the overall system as long as you route it correctly.

  2. I know people use the AHM as a system/speaker processor. While I don’t think it has every feature that the higher end processors have, it certainly has enough to make due. It definitely has crossover/eq/delay/limiting features. So yes it will work in a lot of situations, but it probably isn’t the most flexible speaker processor out there. Personally I think it would be fine replacing a DBX Venu360 however.
