This is my first post and I expect my Qu-6 to arrive in about a week or so, but from the little that I know, the Qu Mixpad app is to control a mixer, not a recording application. That said, I believe there is a way to record from the app to the SD card, but there are limitations (32 tracks if 48kHz and 16 channels if 96kHz).
My recommendation is for you to use REAPER as your DAW. It is available in MacOS, Windows and Linux operating systems and is both highly configurable and affordable. If you set up DAW control, you should be able to arm/start/stop recording via the Qu Mixpad app.
