I noticed on my SQ if I pull the USB the desk notices and shows such…
plugging in the usb and the desk sees and responds
my new QU5 hangs.
doesn’t notice if I pull card or card
looking at the usb utility without either card or usb plugged in and board reports capacity, used, unused as if those two devices are plugged in
inserting a different usb, the numbers remain the same
and
I can’t format the usb
turning the unit OFF and cold booting resolves the recognizing and formatting but still can’t record even though signal is available (per the meters) to the 2 ark AND multitrk
I can’t tell for sd card, but the usb Stick is hotplugable. I did it several times with different usb sticks (to backup shows and other settings). No problems.

For what it’s worth,
I didn’t want to work outside of my DAW ecosphere in this matter but installed a trial version of Reaper as suggested in article when preparing external files for use in multitrack SD on the CQ.
Worked of course…
However, since I’ve been slowly learning Logic I tried the same process and Logic exported correctly.
The DAW I’ve been using for a number of years is PreSonus Studio One (now Fender).
Unfortunately Studio One is adding something to the file I can’t see which is creating unstable reaction on QU.
Bummer.
