Audio SYNC with GX4816 & SQ 6 (Firmware 1.6.1)

So is there something I’m missing? I connect my new GX4816 via SLink with the console audio clock set to internal and I hear artifacts. But when i select SLink for the audio clock the artifacts go away but i get a warning on the console says its not in sync and doesn’t go away. But audibly it sounds synced with no (vinyl sounding) artifacts. I have a dante card installed could the sync issue be a mismatch between that and other clocks? Im not quite understanding. Thanks for the help!

Is there a power up sequence related to leader & follower that I now have to account for?

Was previously using a AR2412 with a AB168 on Slink with no noticeable issues prior to this upgrade to the GX4816.

I just tried changing the Dante Card to 96 kHz Sample rate with no changes still getting artifacts in the internal clock source mode. Have to run it on the SLink with the “not in sync warning” to not get any artifacts.

This isnt an issue with GX as much as the Dante card.

You can do this one of two ways:

  1. Set the console clock source to tge dante card slot and do NOT check sync to external in Dante controller. I prefer this since you can have an unlimited number of devices on your Dante network set this way. This syncs the console to the Dante network.
  2. Set the console clock source to internal, but then you MUST check sync to external in Dante controller. You can only ever have a singular device on your network set this way. This syncs the whole dante network to the device set as sync to external.

In either case you can run the dante card at 48k or 96k, it doesn’t matter the desk will run at 96 internally.

Note the DT168 (not the SQ or dante card) has an aliasing issue noticeable at 48k in the HF (15kHz and up)

The GX4816 does not have clocking capabilities, so you cannot set the console’s clock to “SLink” in this situation. That option is used when you are linking two consoles together and need one console to act as the master clock and one console to “slave” to the other console using SLink.

Where is this sync to external option in Dante controller? I opened my device config for the Dante Card on the console but don’t see any options of external sync.

Oddly, in this situation even though there is no other console reference the audio artifacts go away and the GX4816 works properly when i select SLink and leave it with the warning.

The artifacts/sample rate issues appear when i goto internal or I/O options in the audio clock source

Solved!

  1. Set console to Internal Audio Clock Source

  2. Turn off the console & GX4816

  3. Turn on the GX4816

  4. Turn on the Console

Thanks for all the help! Allen & Heath is aware of the issue and the Ticket Number is #910047. Hopefully they can make it so that you don’t have to power cycle equipment to re sync everything.

In clock status tab dont don’t double click the device

Ah, yep I got the newest Dante Controller software and the layout threw me off. I totally was missing that tab. Now its setup to sync externally. Seems to work! Thanks
