Hello,
I’m sure many users would be interested in an automatic volume control feature that detects the input signal and allows users to set a desired attenuation level without compression. When the signal exceeds this level, the system would gradually reduce it until it stabilizes. Once the signal drops back down, the attenuation would deactivate automatically.
This would be very useful for DJs and enthusiastic bands who tend to push the volume too high, risking damage to their equipment.
Would love to hear your thoughts!
This would actually be a task for a limiter with a very slow attack and release.
Incidentally, in Germany you can buy a device for this problem called the ‘Idiotenbremse’ (Idiot Brake):
if the DJ thinks he absolutely has to exceed a set volume threshold, the signal is not only limited - it actually gets quieter!
This is a great idea to keep people in check who don’t want to follow the rules.
(Unfortunately, there’s no such thing for politicians…
)
However, there is an AGC function in the AHM.
I use it with a measuring microphone in the foyer of the hall to adjust the gong volume to the noise level of the audience
