Hello everyone.
New to the forum and new to Allen Heath in General.
We are about to purchase two new desks for our company and avantis is our n.1 target for the moment.
Our decision now depends on one answer only.
Can we have signal redundancy with avantis and DX boxes?. Auto signal failover is very important for our setups.
90% of our setups will include, the avantis with 1 local DX 168 and a second DX in stage position. So, two CAT6 per box.
So, can this be done via a DX link card + DX boxes or I’m missing something?
From the product descriptions looks like this is the case but I hadn’t had the time to read the manual and see what are the software limitations.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Define auto signal failover…
It is possible to have cable redundancy. DX boxes can get connected with a redundant cable connection.
But there are different scenarios possible.
The DX32 can connect to the DX Card in redundant mode, giving you the possible maximum of 32 input channels on a redundant connection, while the DX168 is limited to 16.
Giga ACE cards can provide redundant connections as well, but you will need extra devices to achieve this.
And of course, Dante can use primary/secondary setups too.
The following document explains it very well. The information provided for the dLive is relevant to the Avantis option cards too.
Hi Steff, Thanks for the quick reply and the link, i will definitely have a quick look on it.
Cable redundancy is our goal and you clearly state that we can have it with a DX setup.
I assume that DX hubs are needed in the case of Giga ace card.
Million thanks!!!
Dont forget you will have an Slink port in the Avantis. No need of Giga ace if you use that.

But that is not able to connect anything in redundant mode.
As Steffen said, you can get redundant connections between DX boxes and an Avantis. It’s just going to take the correct hardware.
You’ll need a GigaAce card installed in the Avantis. Each output of the GigaAce card needs to be connected to it’s own DX Hub. Each DX stage box needs one leg of it’s redundant connection plugged into the different DX Hubs.
This image is from the DX-GX System Guide (definitely suggested reading). It shows a DLive as the console, but it works exactly the same way with an Avantis too.
Another alternative is to use Dante stageboxes with a Dante card installed in the console. The A&H Dante equipment all has redundant Dante ports, but obviously you would also need to build out two completely independent Dante networks. It makes no sense to use “redundant” Dante connections if everything goes through the same network switch for example.
