Hello everyone,
I’m working extensively with Companion 5.0.6, Mixing Station and the Custom Control Editor, and I keep coming up against the same limitations of the current Avantis Remote API.
With Companion 5.0.6, the entire Avantis integration has been migrated to the new API structure.
Companion now uses only the official Allen & Heath Remote API endpoints — there is no longer a MIDI fallback.
This makes it very clear which functions the API does not currently provide.
What is currently missing (technically relevant):
Softkey triggers
Softkey feedback
Transport functions (Play, Stop, Record)
Show recall
Meter data (input, bus, FX, matrix)
Status queries (mute status, fader position, scene status)
Full routing parameters
Access to custom controls
Console events (e.g. Scene Loaded, Mute Changed)
Why this is particularly important for churches and congregations:
Many congregations work across multiple projects using:
Companion + Stream Deck
Mixing Station
Custom Controls
Dante routing
Playback systems (LiveTrax, Ableton, QLab)
Automation workflows for services, rehearsals and live streams
These workflows require a unified, comprehensive remote API so that:
Scenes can be loaded automatically
Softkeys can be triggered externally
Custom Controls can be controlled from Companion
Transport functions for playback/recording can be integrated
Meter feedback can be displayed on Stream Deck
multiple projects (worship services, youth groups, rehearsals, events) can be controlled centrally
Currently, many congregations have to rely on workarounds because the API does not provide key functions.
What already works:
Scene recall
Mutes
Routing
Fader levels
Channel name / colour
DCA / Group / Aux / Matrix control
What would be possible with an API extension:
Complete automation workflows
Externally triggering softkeys
Externally triggering custom controls
Transport control (Play/Record)
Show Recall
Meter feedback on Companion/Stream Deck
Status synchronisation between the console and external tools
Integration with QLab, OBS, ProPresenter, Stream Deck, Companion
Cross-project control for churches/congregations
Question for Allen & Heath:
Are there any plans to expand the Remote API or integrate MIDI functions into the API?
An expanded API would be a major step forward for anyone integrating Avantis into modern automation workflows — particularly in the church and house of worship sector.
