Avantis touchscreens are regular HDMI screens with USB touch integration

It opens the possibilities for some crazy integration. Check out this Youtube video for a great example/walk through of what is possible.

This guy integrates a video switcher because he wants to use the video switcher as a normal video switcher in addition to running the screens. But if you just want to use the screens to access computers (Reaper/DAW, Live Professor, Waves, etc) you could just use a KVM device and simplify his setup dramatically.

Amazing systems integration and packaging! Thanks for sharing this.

Nice one.
And it is nice to know you have a pair of spare monitors in that console

How cool is that!?
It’s simply wonderful when someone thinks outside the box like that.
And this guy would also be the perfect salesperson for it.
Of course, I suspected that the Avantis contains a standard control computer, but I’ve never had to look inside.
The fact that the internal components can be used so flexibly is, of course, amazing.

I love innovations like this - thank you so much for sharing!
Oh, and one more thing: Does this work also with my SQ?

Has anyone dared to see if the Solo does carry the 2nd monitor output? And whether it functions?

I could route the DP connector to the back and connect a second screen!!

That is a great question. I hope someone is willing to open up their console to check.

Honestly I would be surprised if there ISN’T the ports needed to connect a second screen. Unless the original motherboard was too large to fit into the smaller Solo case (which I would be surprised if it was), there would be little reason for A&H to redesign and have to manufacture a completely new motherboard for the Solo. That being said, just having the ports on the motherboard is no guarantee that the second screen would actually work with the core console functionality. After all, the Solo software has definitely been modified (ie it’s not exactly the same as the original Avantis) and A&H may have removed this functionality.

I love that he uses a midi-controlled KVM switch and has then assigned the Avanti’s softkeys to control the midi channels. I wish I had the guts to do a similar hack. Imagine using the Avanti’s screen to see and control Reaper, Dante routing, your favorite room tuning software, or Waves, all running on a Mac or PC in the rack under the desk. You could also route webcams. I do a lot of gigs with limited visibility of the whole stage (audiences, who needs them :-). It would be great to get a video feed of what’s happening on or off stage onto the Avantis screen. If money was no object, you could use a Dante-enabled camera to run the data over the existing network.

It doesn’t even need to be Dante cameras. Most CCTV cameras today are IP based which would use the regular network. Of course you still need some sort of internet browser to view the camera feeds, so you would likely still need a computer to view the camera feeds with. But setting up and wiring the cameras shouldn’t be hard. Most of them are POE compatible, so it would literally take one network cable from a POE network switch to each camera.
