Backup CQ-18T Power Supply

Can I purchase a backup Power Supply for the CQ-18T ?

Hi Nick,

The CQ-18T and CQ-12T require a 12V DC (centre positive) 5.4 amp supply.
Please contact your local distributor for pricing and availability of the supplied PSU part ref: AM12199

Cheers,
Keith.

Any reason why you wouldn’t use a standard IEC which everyone has extras of? Makes the old ZED 10FX look pretty good. Maybe people will wait another decade.

Well it has to go somewhere and inside the unit wasn’t a fit so………
Rather have a reliable external psu than a compromised internal one thanks very much:)

There were a few reasons, mainly size of unit vs performance.
The CQ-20B has space to position the PSU away from audio circuitry for example, where the CQ-12T and CQ-20B do not, being that they also have screens and control boards.

I’ve had zero success being able to get a backup power supply from any AH distributors.

However, I found this one on Mouser that arrived today and work perfectly:

Hope this helps!

The extra external supply is ALWAYS a pain!
This is the same issue I had with the QSC TouchMix 8&16 mixers.
So yes, don’t lose that power supply!

@Hansenhaus Thank you for sharing! I also had no success finding a backup power supply from AH distributors in NL. I’ve ordered your suggestion now,

A Suggestion for Allen & Heath: Please make this spare part easily available with some shops. Thank you

Come on guys, any 12 Volt, 5 Amp power supply with center positive (the most commons) will make it.
It’s 10 to 15 bucks everywhere…

Hi, 1st Post. I have a CQ18T and would like to get a power supply Backup .. i have a quote from Sweetwater for 99.00. it just appears to be 12v / 5.4amp / Center Positive. has anyone purchased a NON-standard power supply from Amazon or Ebay ???

i did try and add an Amazon Link but I assume it is not allowed here. But the one I saw was 18.99 .. thats a far cry from 99.00 ..

thx in advance for ideas from Real World users !!

thank you john

Thank you for posting this link. I was trying to find one with a Locking connector. hard to find and it is odd to me that A&H do not have locking on the one that comes with it OR as a replacement.

i had tried to put Amazon Link in my post BUT I think since it was my 1st post here it was stripped out.

cheers john

I am using currently this KFD DC 12V 5A.
It is a NAS power supply with all kind of protection inside.
It is my main power supply for the mixer at the home studio desk.

Hi all,
My CQ was delivered with a FIDUS branded PSU 12DC/5A center positive.
But this supply has a male DC connector with no lock (turning 1/4 CW) and is subject to make CQ lose its power !!!
I would like to replace this 5.2/2.5 connector by the same but locking. Does anybody knows where I could buy this component ?
Thank you.

Keep in mind that based on what Keith has said, this power suppky is not correct and is underpowering your unit by 400mA. The proper one is also a 65w supply, whereas yours is only 60w.

You need to have a power supply that is 5.4A or MORE to be a proper replacement.

Realistically, the being underpowered by only 400mA will most likely not be any sort of major issue, but without knowing what the full draw is on power up and full load, I can’t say for certain.

Well the CQ12T is rated ar max 35W.
This is why I think my power supply is OK.
I don’t know why A&H choose a 5,4 Amp for power supply.

Very strange. Just took a look at the CQ18T spec sheet as well, and that page shows it is a 5A power supply required, rather than the 5.4A mentioned above.

That’s what the cable lock next to the power port is for.

My situation is a variation on this theme (and for CQ-12T). I was looking for a replacement power supply, but of the “wall-wart” style. In my particular use case @ my weekly venue, I don’t have a lot of space for such a bulky PS (esp. the mains cable). I contacted tech support and they sent me the OEM PS data sheet:
https://fiduspower.com/media/downloadable/files/attachment//e/d/eda65_datasheet.pdf

Tech support could not officially recommend any particular brand of replacement, but did confirm that “…it is a standard 12v, 5A, 60W, centre-pin positive power supply.” Note that, on the data sheet, the spec for the male connector to the back panel is listed as 5.5/2.1. I found that NOT to be true, as the first PS I purchased from Amazon with the 5.5/2.1 spec could not connect successfully to the back panel of my CQ-12T.

I ended up purchasing this one from Amazon which appears to be a match to the OEM voltage/wattage/amperage specs. Note that it’s a switching PS so negotiates the exact spec with the device. BTW, the male DC pin is 5.5/2.5 and fit perfectly the first time. I used this PS successfully for my 7/17 gig (4 hours), in addition to test-driving it several times during practice leading up to the gig:

Hope this info is helpful to many of you! Cheers!
