Hi folks, I’m looking for advice on connecting a Boss space echo re-202 effects unit to my new PX5, as part of my DJ setup (Traktor).
The FX unit is connected via the mixer send/return.
It works, but is not behaving as I expected, both in terms of effect and how the sound is coming out. It sounds like the effects unit is overlaying distorted sound on top of the music rather than changing the music (if that makes sense) and I can still hear the track playing even with the fader down.
I suspect this is an issue with the cabling or a setting on the mixer/FX box rather than a fault.
The “direct sound” setting on the FX unit is set to off, as per Boss’s instructions.
The channel effects on the mixer are set to Dual.
Am using TS cables. Could that be the problem, should I be using TRS?
Any advice appreciated - even if its “those FX units are rubbish, go and buy a such and such”

I am not familiar with either device, but I have only looked at the documentations.
Perhaps the first question is whether you are already reasonably familiar with both devices and know what needs to be done and how to configure them?
Try the following things:
On the RE select with the input switch “LINE”.
If the input is set to “GUITAR,” the signal levels from the PX would very likely cause clipping.
Additionally, the RE features a Saturation effect - a preamp simulation (called “RE-201 Simulation” - that may need to be disabled (as described in the manual) to achieve a clean sound.
On the PX, disable FILTER located beneath the EXT RTN control.
Finally, for every input you wish to send to the RE, set the top switch to “EXT” to ensure only the connected RE is used for that signal.
On the PX (at the top right), switch SEND from PRE to POST.
Thank you, switching SEND from PRE to POST fixed the problem! I hadn’t even noticed that setting, am on a bit of a learning curve with all this new kit, but it sounds great now 
I’m glad you were able to solve your problem.
However, simply switching the effect send to “POST” shouldn’t, on its own, eliminate the distortion you described. )
