Buss receives audio when send to bus is set to -Inf

A friend has an SQ-6 that still passes audio to an Aux when the send to that Aux is set to -Inf. I thought that setting the send to Aux to -Inf should completely block the audio.

  • Firmware is 1.6.3
  • Tap is post preamp
  • Send is pre-fader
  • Observed using both local and Dante inputs.

Any thoughts on a setting or other cause of this behavior? Is this expected?

Check the Mix Extension In for that bus.

I think that one gets us all at some point!

Hello Mark,

I’m not sure what the Mix Extension In is for a bus and my search skills are not turning anything up. Where is this setting?

PS. I confirmed that the bus input is unassigned.

Preamp screen in a bus master. In MixPad it is called Mix Ext In.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t explain it this time. Mix Ext In is unassigned. (Also, the behavior appears to happen with any assigned input.)

Can you upload a show file?

Are you 100% sure the user is adjusting the aux send level and not just the fader level for that channel? Setting the aux up as pre-fader would make the channel fader not affect the level of the channel heard in the aux mix. Obviously the aux send level of that channel should still affect the volume of the channel in the aux mix, but it could be the user thinks they are adjusting the aux send level, but is really only adjusting the channel fader level. This would easily explain why the audio is being heard in the aux mix.

I did confirm the correct mix was selected. I also tried adjusting the aux send level using the channels Routing screen. The first two people to complain were using SQ4You.

Show file link expires May 11th. I don’t see a way to attach anything other than an image here.

Are the inputs getting into the Aux being sent to a Group? If so check that the Group hasn’t also been routed to the Aux.

All 12 busses are configured for as AUX. There are no Groups on the board.

I think you confirmed this with your first sentence, but make sure the user has selected the proper aux buss in the SQ4You app. When our musicians mixed their own monitors using software, it was not uncommon for them to end up on the wrong aux buss and complain that their mix wasn’t working properly. The reality was that they were on the wrong monitor mix and were affecting someone else’s monitor mix!

Check your I/O that you dont have any other mixer channel patched to the same input socket - if so this input could be being sent to the aux buss separately from the expected channel.

Not a bad thought. In at least one case, I was able to watch the fader move on the board when the specific aux send level was adjusted.

I checked this in the show file. The first input we saw the issue with is only routed to one channel. Also, no busses have an Mix Ext In assigned.

Figured it out this morning. Some of the PSM300 receivers were panned center in mix mode. Thank you all for the suggestions.
