Can the CQ20 withstand PoE? Or can it damage the device?

Hi!

I’m trying to use a BomeBox with the CQ20b. I’m using PoE to power the BomeBox. So now it is set up so the the PoE is fed into the BomeBox and not into the CQ20b. However this way I can’t connect my computer to BomeBox and use the MixPad app.

So, before making adjustment I thought it would be wise to reach out and ask if someone can verify if the CQ20b will or won’t be damaged by incoming PoE?

POE is a feature that is managed via the switch. If the device can’t use it, it isn’t activated on the port.
If you use a POE injector, it only delivers POE to the connected device.

Yes, you’re right. In this case, the bomebox is powered by a PoE injector. The bomebox has a feature that is puts the power through to the second ethernet port. This way multiple BomeBoxes can be powered with the same PoE injector. This is why the PoE reaches either the computer or the cq20b.

No it does not. Normally it is an active switched feature between Bome boxes, as far as I remember.
If it is standards compliant, the pass through gets disabled if the device on the port can’t handle PoE.

The Bome Box forum would be the better place to ask this, btw.

Ok, I ll look into it some more. I wasn’t aware this could be turned off. Thanks for clarifying.

It gets disabled automatically, if standards compliant PoE is used.

Ah i see. It does indeed. But the bomebox shuts down completely when i connect it to the computer. I might have to look for another way then.

A switch?
PoE switches are available as relatively simple and compact devices nowadays.

And there will be more devices with PoE in the future. Wifi APs for example.

Yeah, I might have a switch lying around, so that’ll be an easy fix… Thanks a lot for helping out!
