Well, I tell a lie, I can get Reverb to work but God knows how as Ive set all the other FX up the same and they dont work at all.
Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong here please?
You may remember me from a while back as I was having issues with feedback which many people said many things about.
I basically managed to cure my feedback issues by combining a number of methods:
a) Set input gain so that it just touches yellow not red (I may abandon that shortly though)
b) Stop messing around with the desk so much and go back to basics.
ie Does it sound OK with everything flat? Then leave it alone. If its a bit ringy, dial in the HPF.
c) Dont use any effects - Most of the venues I play (All smallish) have enough reverb in them already. No effects = No feedback loops.
Also I paid a lot of attention to maximum gain before feedback - i.e. You can only add so much volume to a certain sized room before its going to feedback, so dont put everything through the FOH if its not required - Get the vocals up mainly.
But I thought I’d have a go at looking at the effects again, both FOH and in the monitor mixes (We all use IEMs by the way, another way to avoid feedback) but I can only get the Reverb working (but not in the monitor mixes).
Maybe Ive got it all set up completely wrong in the first place?
All I have is the mics, the desk, IEMs and FOH speakers.
Im not using any external effects units.
For example:
Ive got Reverb on Mix 9-10
The rear of the effects screen for it states:
Mix>Return
Mix 9-10
On the desk:
Ive got a mic plugged into CH1
Mix 9-10 fader up on upper layer
Fader Ch1 up on lower layer
and thats fine Reverb is coming out of the FOH
but when I try the EXACT same thing with
Doubler
Delay
Gated Reverb
I cant get them to produce any effects on any channel
Also I cant hear the FX in the monitor mix.
I did have this all working fine before AGES ago when I had my feedback issues, but like I say, now nothing.
I’m going to assume that I’ve not set it up right.
So any help please (Sorry for wittering on)
