I am trying to program scene changes from the ipad app called forscore.
I’ve tried sending CC messages like
B0 00 00
and then
C0 01 (for scene 2)
but this causes forscore to crash when I invoke this preset
I’ve tried making the C0 01 message into a Program Change Message 01 00 00 01
but this also causes forscore to crash
Any tips from people on this forum?

The MIDI message for scene 1 is: B0 00 00 C0 00, if you’re using SysEx you can enter it like this, otherwise you can enter it as two separate messages triggered simultaneously, with the first one being a bank change (CC) B0 00 00, and the second a program change C0 00.
Scene 2 would be: B0 00 00 C0 01

I have contacted support at A&H. They said there is an ability to disable the sending of MIDI data to the ipad across USB when a scene change occurs. In fact, this feature is available on the dLive mixers.
A&H Support says it’s a bug with the forscore app. I have two other pedals that I program via MIDI and they don’t exhibit this crash issue (Beat Buddy and Headrush Flex Prime), so I really think this is an important bug to fix in the CQ18T mixer.
I have been successful with changing scenes from Forscore. But after the Program Change message is sent, a whole bunch of MIDI data comes back to the ipad and I believe it’s causing the forscore application on the ipad to crash. Is there a way to inhibit the mixer from sending this stuff? Honestly, forscore is a very small operation and they are not likely to even respond to my support email. They almost never do. So I’d like to see a fix from A&H if possible.
To duplicate the problem
- have forscore running on an ipad
- connect the ipad via USB to the mixer
- switch from one scene to another by using the mixer’s UI
- watch forscore crash

As it was discussed through the support channel, the bunch of MIDI data coming back to the iPad is not a bug, it is MIDI data generated by the different parameters changed when moving from one scene to another, which is completely normal.
This is equal to moving a fader at any point, it will also generate MIDI data.
Your Beat Buddy and Headrush Flex Prime don’t seem to be devices that generate that amount of MIDI data, so it’s understandable that they don’t crash the app.
I am sorry we can’t offer a solution here as there’s nothing particularly to fix.
It is unfortunate that the app developers cannot look into this, but this is something that resides on their end, I’m afraid.
However, I have brought to the attention of our product managers, the request for adding as a potential feature in the future being able to enable/disable MIDI out.

I figured out a solution to my problem.
I wanted to send MIDI out mostly to MUTE or UNMUTE FX. So I just coded up these sequences and they work like a charm without clobbering Forscore.
So I’m all set for now.

I stopped using this feature for a while. When I tested it on an older ipad this morning, it just worked. I believe it doesn’t work with my newer ipad. I actually stopped using this feature since I was using the feature to provide variable reverb depth (room, slapback, deep), and when reverb was enabled, my vocals were thinner/vacant - so these days I don’t use reverb on my voice at all.
