Is it okay to use an ehterCON to etherCON barrel connector for an A&H DX expander? It’s probably not “best practice” but the longest CAT5 cable I have is about 100’ and I need about 50’ more to reach an orchestra pit. As long as the connection is good it should be fine, right? I have a backup plan if it doesn’t work.
If it’s a Neutrik CAT6 or CAT5E there should be no problem…
If you’re using shielded CAT cable, you’d be best to get a shielded coupler.
Thanks, guys.
Yep. Shielded SuperCat cable from RatSound with shielded Neutrik connectors and Neutirk barrel connectors. =)
I take it the shielded cables and connectors are the way to go, right?
Most definitely. please be aware of the physical limits of the cables though.
I know with certain cables ACE would run to 120m (350ft ish) but never pushed my luck over 75-80m. You will also get some loss within the barrel also but I would have thought you would be good for easily 200ft.
Barrel adds ~5m to the cable length according to Fluke network tester.
I did a show with a special CAT7A long run cable 100m
and had to add another two 15m CAT7A, so over all 130m and two barrel connectors from Neutrik
GigaACE worked well, but the tunneling network worked not…

Thank you very much for this useful information!

can you specify what connectors you have tested?
I think the most common ones in my surroundings are NE8FF and NE8FFX6-W from Neutrik.
