Channel gain settings not saved in Shows

When loading a show in the CQ20B, I noticed that if, when saving the show, channels were in the “SD/USB” mode and not “Analogue” mode, their “Gain” value is not saved.

When I later load the show, the “Gain” for those channels isn’t restored (instead the gain that was set in the previous show remain).

This is very annoying and in fact I lost the gain settings of almost every show I had stored because I wasn’t aware of it and saved the shows while I was mixing recorded sets (so the channels were all in “SD/USB” mode).

Any chance there’s a way to overcome this other than manually having to switch all channels to “Analogue” before saving??

PS - I see that someone posted a similar question back in January 2024, but received no answers at all (nobody responded except me a few minutes ago asking if they ever found a solution).

Yes, I think I’ve had this happen. I thought I was tweaking or must have done something wrong. I haven’t gone through the effort of reproducing it deterministically though. I’ve just been careful about never saving a scene when any inputs are in USB state.

If you can reproduce the behavior deterministically, the best course of action is to file a bug report on the official support website.

I thought this was the official support site. I couldn’t find another. Can you please post a link to what you are referring to?

This is a community forum - you can get official support from here:

A&H staff do read the forum but we’re not able to respond to every post - so do reach out via the link above or email support@allen-heath.com if you’d like help with anything.

Thank you! I opened a support ticket. Will come back to report here if there’s a solution or news.

Here’s the answer I got from A&H support:

Yes, that is correct; the Trim and/or Gain data is only saved in relation to what the input is ‘currently’ assigned as at the time of saving. It is not a bug, but a way that the system was designed. Following more complex consoles, typically, this saved data would need to be unlinked, as it could cause serious problems when patching to sockets or inserts down the line. But seeing as the CQ does not offer complex patching, we can see a valid argument for something like this to be added.

Sadly, there is currently nothing in place for you to use the system in a way that will enable you to recall Trim and/or Gain when switching source type within the same scene. For now, you will need to have separate scenes for separate input source types. If this then also requires linking, then it would need to be administered from the top down and save a show files.

With the idea of having this added to CQ. Please feel free to submit this to the CQ feature forum where these can be reviewed by our product teams.
