Compressor on FX returns / delay ducking

I’d love to have a ducking on my vocal delay when the lead singer is singing. So the delay is only audible when there are no vocals and so the FX does not clutter the sound all the time. So it would be great to have a compressor on the FX returns with SC of a desired channel.

A&H has neutered the FX sends/busses for some reason. They obviously don’t offer the same level of processing that normal busses do. That being said, I believe you can send audio to FX engines using other mixes - like a regular aux buss. This gives you all of the advantages of the regular buss processing (like gates and compressors) that the FX busses lack.

I know this functionality is available on the Avantis and Dlive and reading the SQ firmware reference manual it seems that you can route audio to the FX using aux busses in lue of the stock FX busses.

The advantage the Avantis and DLive have in this situation is their flexible buss structure because you can “unassign” the stock FX busses and use regular aux busses without actually changing the total busses used. Since the SQ doesn’t have this flexibility, you will have to “use up” one of the available aux sends without being able to unassign the stock FX buss to “gain back” a buss. If you don’t have any aux sends available because you are using them all for other purposes, this would be frustrating.

Although his understandable request (which has been expressed here several times already) clearly refers to Returns - and not to Sends.

A possible workaround to his situation would be to route the corresponding FX Return through a group and use its compressor for the “Ducking”.

I clearly missed that when I read the OP.
