One of the big things lacking on the D live is the ability to run multiple compressors simultaneously on a channel. This a valuable tool that exists on other consoles where a low ratio and high ratio can be fun in series to control the single in the most optimal way. Running something like waves is not always practical. The D live has the compressors on board, we just need to be able to implement them in a better way. Think about an 1176 followed by a LA2A. This is a classic combo but there needs to be an update to support it.
I usually have the LA2A on my vocal group, but you could just chain multiple channels together if you needed the additional compressor.
I like the idea of the flexibility, but it would have to be ressource managed really well.
right now, dependent on your Mix count, you might be able to get around this using busses. But having the ability for using 2 compressors per channel might be killer.
I agree. as a workaround, I run 1176 on my inputs, and LA2A on my vocal busses.
I’d cheerfully take two “dynamics” slots over a gate slot and a compressor slot (also it’s be great to be able to put them wherever we want on the channel strip instead of just being able to switch between EQ→Comp and Comp→EQ).
If that’s the only technically feasible way for the software engineering team to accomplish the request, absolutely.
This would be super nice. Being able to freely rearrange the order of Gate, Ins A, PEQ, Comp, and Ins B would be tremendous. Is the current arrangement the most typical? Absolutely. And being able to flip PEQ and Comp covers the other most common order. But I’d love the extra flexibility.
Absolutely. I have been testing out tons of ways to get this done given the current limitations. IP>Bus is the most obvious work around, but it eats up buses quickly if you want each vocal mic to have its own leveler.
One way this could be possibly easily implemented is to be able to pick another ip’s direct out as the source on a different ip(currently not possible and yes I know it messes up time compensation.) Then you would just duplicate all of your vocal channels and only route the 2nd set to your main’s or vocal bus.
Note: obviously you would need to set “global Ip direct out source” to be post compressor.
