Connecting SQ5 to ATEM Mini Extreme ISO G2 via MADI

Hello all,

We are moving to a new ATEM Mini Extreme ISO G2 to utilize the MADI interface for better sound quality.

After we install the SQ-MADI interface on the SQ5 (with latest firmware), I can see the interface in the I/O page on the SQ5. I can assign the output to a MADI channel. But the ATEM can’t detect any signals from the SQ5 on the MADI interface.

Since this is a simple SQ5 --(MADI)–> ATEM setup. Is there anything I need to configure in the MADI I/O page on the SQ5 please? Any pointer is appreciated as I can’t find any official doc on configuring the MADI on the SQ5.

Thanks.

Best regards.

Which device is the clock master?

If you set the clock to the I/O port, make sure there is any input present. There is no need for much documentation, since it is a very simple I/O card.

I have looked at the instruction from the attached doc and that’s what I have.

The first step is to set the clock source for the mixer in the Setup / Audio / Audio Sync. I can’t find Audio Sync under Audio on the SQ5. Instead of Audio Sync, I find Digital I/O, where I set the Audio Clock Source to Internal. A&H needs to fix the manual.

The next step is to set the clock source for the MADI card in Setup / Audio / I/O Port. Since the ATEM can’t be a clock master, I set the Sync Source to Word Clock.

At least, I patch my AUX1 (LvStrm) to map to the MDAI Port 1.

The AUX1 (LvStrm) is working to send signal to Local port. But in the I/O Port screen (2nd screen), Link 1 has no signal at all (since Redundant is Off, Link 2 should have nothing). I assume Link 1 should have some lights when AUX1 is sending signal.

Anything else I need to configure? Or the SQ-MADI card is bad? Thanks.

Updated: The BNC COAX cable is connecting from the SQ5 MADI OUT1 port to the ATEM Mini G2 MADI port. Not sure if I need to connect the cable from the Word Clock port or not.

Word clock has no signal without connection to a valid clock source. Choose internal?

No input is connected!!!

MADI is not a bidirectional connection.

The only options in the Sync Source is Word Clock, Link 1, Link 2.

To clock the SQ to the MADI Sync Source, I tried to change the Audio Clock Source in the Setup / Audio / Digital I/O page to I/O Port per reference guide But the SQ5 is giving me an error.

I want to set the SQ5 MADI as the master clock. How do I configure that?

The ATEM Mini G2 only has a MADI In port. Does this mean the COAX cable need to connect to the Word Clock port on the SQ5 to the ATEM Madi In? Currently, I connect the cable from SQ5 MADI Out 1 to ATEM Mini G2 MAID In.

Overall, there is definitely a need for more documentation. Simple question like setting SQ5 MADI interface as clock master is unclear.

Yes, that is correct. Make sure the ATEM works with the correct sampling frequency.

You should use internal clock if possible. You do not send any clock signal to the mixer, so internal would be correct.
