Just at the start for the third show today my avantis stopped passing audio to and from the GX4816 connected to the Slink port. I thought it was a bad connection so I reseated it and then it happened a few minutes later so I swapped to a different cat6 and again after a few minutes it dropped audio again. It is getting quite warm in the auditorium due to poor air conditioning and I was wondering if it could be the ethernet interface for the Slink port that is getting too hot I chucked a USB fan to the right of the console to blow more air underneath it and it seems to have fixed the issue. Has anyone ever heard of this issue.
did you figure out consistently what was going on with this? I also have issues with GX4816 staying connected in our church. No high heat issues here tho
I’m using a Avantis and the GX4816 in our Church and I had the same issue
Getting disconnected Just before the meeting. Not showing on the Console that it’s disconnected
On the Stage Box side Ready light is blinking
When you reconnect the snake only it’s started to work again
It was not a big issue for me because it’s was before the meeting
but Yesterday
During the meeting it got disconnecting twice which is very disappointing.
Please Help…!
Are you all using “STP Cat5e” cable as recommended by A&H? Using “higher” rated cabling is not recommended because of the higher twist rates.
Higher twists rates are not required for this use case and actually result in longer individual cable strands than Cat5e cable strands for equal cable length distances. This is especially important if your cable lengths are on the long side. Using “higher” rated cables could actually mean your individual cable strands are longer than the spec’d distance even though the measured “cable length” is not.
Personally I would recommend purchasing “premade” STP Cat5e cables because of the extra shielding that needs to be accounted for in the terminations. It seems that very few people actually know what to do with the shielding when they terminate their own cabling.
