Now I’ve downloaded the first track, ‘05 In The Garden.wav’, copied it to a USB stick, and was able to display and also play it in the SQ without any problems.
So at least this file is apparently free of the expected issues that could prevent it from playing on A&H mixers.
Now I’m at a loss. ![]()
OK thanks for checking on that. Rather a puzzle then.
I think the best work around for now is that external MP3 player, while I keep experimenting.
EVERYTHING else is working great.
Note that file song 1 there is oddly only a few seconds, just like my original.
I did edit the setting for USB represented in the manual 7.3, changing multitrack to stereo and USB/SD sample rate to 48k. No change to files being accessible to play.
My selected song ‘05 … Garden’ was 2:15 long.
As already mentioned, this shouldn’t affect to your playback.
Two more things:
USB-A should actually have priority for playback, but try it anyway without an inserted SD card and without a USB-C device connected.
And did you perhaps create a backup of your USB stick on your PC at some point and now accidentally saved your tracks in this identical structure instead of the connected USB stick?
I’ll have to go through this checklist. I can eject the SD card, which is probably blank, and the USB C going to the Mac Mini.
OK copy on those settings. I’ll reset them.
I’ll need to try another USB, just the one we normally use for Play files was tried. I think it’s the older of 2 we have been using.
PS thanks for trying out the files. It’s gotta be on my end, USB possibly.
I recommend getting a USB-C adapter cable to jack or XLR so you can use every USB-C equipped device for playback.
It is very handy and not expensive.
Yes, using an external device isn’t really a bad idea, since the functionality and implementation of the internal player are, to put it mildly, terrible.
And what do you do if someone suddenly comes along with a USB stick and says, “We have to play this today?”
At least I can’t remember ever using the player for anything like the kind of playback you’re planning.
But regardless, it wouldn’t hurt to figure out why your files aren’t even visible, let alone playable.
Thanks for the assist. I’ll work on getting the external player. I’ll still try to get this to work so it’ll give a solution to others needing to know.
Thanks for the pointer. Good idea because I would like to feed Studio One 7 again sometime.
I have the same problem with my QU5D. All the audio files that before worked perfectly on a USB stick with my old QU32 mixer, are now no longer visible in the USBPlay folder. I also opened a ticket for this reason.
However, I found that by converting the old 16 bit 44.1 KHz wav files to 24 bit 48 KHz before uploading them to the USB stick, they work fine. I think the main problem is the bit depth. However, I have not tested all combinations of bit depth and sample rates and it would probably work with 44.1Khz sample rate too…
Hopefully Allen&Heath will fix this bug soon.
Welcome to the club, and thanks for your comment.
I tried a second USB A, computer format then Qu-5 format, adding an album folder. No-go on having the files accessible.
The USB tab showed the USB drive specs on it.
The problem isn’t the USB stick’s format! You need to open the old WAV files with an application capable of saving them at 24 bit/48 kHz (converting the bit depth and sample rate). Then upload these new files to the (correctly) formatted USB stick in the USBPlay folder. You should now see the audio files with the mixer.
I can recheck, but I think I’ve done that. I had to convert the files to 48k sample rate & 24 bit. This makes up the latest save and load into the USB.
It worked for me.
You can also check by recording something in stereo to the USB stick and then rename and move the file from the USBREC folder to the USBPLAY folder. The file will then become visible and you can play it.
First you have to set 48 KHz sampling rate and stereo stream mode (probably) in the Sync&USB tab (audio configuration).
Please let me know if it works. Thanks.
You can rest assured, but we already did that two days ago.
I would like to confirm again that at least the files you provided are already 24 bit, 48 kHz and, in this respect, exactly meet A&H’s requirements.
The parameters of a recording from an SQ are identical (see picture) and thus both files can be played on it, but on the QU yours does not seem to even be displayed.

Would be possible to have these files too? Thanks.
Should be accessible above in a Google Drive share link. Look 2 days ago.
OK thanks, yes I had thought you were able to verify this. Feels a bit like running in circles. But no problem. I’m pushing for external player into ST1.
Everything else is working flawless. Just added the free Tube Stage to all inputs. Even that addition of authorization of a DEEP plug-in easy peasy.
Think this is ticket worthy?
Happy weekend folks.
If you read further up in the thread, you’ll find the apparently still valid link and the fact that ‘tims’ was also able to play the files successfully.
