Expanding on the title. What exactly are the required format specifications for audio file play on the USB A drive on the Qu-5?
I have a USB that I used previously in my old mixer. I’ve removed my audio files, reformatted the USB to erase all. After file conversion, here’s what I’ve got, on a SanDisk 32 GB USB A. What’s incorrect or missing? As the audio files are purchased music, they should be interleaved already.
No SD card being accessed to record simultaneously, and USB C for DAW isn’t used yet, but the USB cable is connected to the Mac Mini.
So far, no files show in the play section, Select track of Qu-Drive.
USB drive formatted to FAT32
Audio files conversion to .wav at 48k sample rate, 24 bit depth
Had Qu-5 format the blank USB A which added its file AH_QU including subdirectories for LIBRARY, SCENES, SHOWS, USBMTK, USBPLAY,USBREC
Transferred into the play subdirectory
Simply, what did I miss for playing these from the USB A?
OK copy that. The drive was working without issue during usage on the other mixer. Yes that doesn’t mean much I suppose. It has allowed removal and reinstall of the correctly formatted song folders with the specs I mentioned.
Does it appear I missed anything?
With the Qu-5, Qu-Drive points only to the USB A or do I have to select between other choices?
Thanks for the idea. I’m going to go over in a bit to the church to verify. I have tech and A/V OCD. This will bug me until I get it working correctly.
Side note, the Qu-5 is excellent in operation, more than capable of running my system.
PS perfect, screenshot will help. I’ve seen the screen on my mixer, just forget what it’s set to.
Switching between 48 and 96 kHz shouldn’t affect your stereo playback at all - otherwise, you also wouldn’t be able to play 44.1 kHz files because you don’t have that USB sample rate.
However, the source of your purchased WAV files would be interesting.
These might contain additional metadata, e.g., from the broadcast area, that prevents playback.
At least with SQ, there’s a warning:
They must not contain any headers (such as BWF) or data (such as markers).
I think I forgot to clarify something. Currently, the audio files from the USB A didn’t populate in the play area. As in clicking select track, it appears as if no file to play.
Yes @SQuser is spot on (as usual). I have just checked a couple of stereo recordings I had on my USB-A key and they both still playback regardless of whether my ‘USB/SD sample rate’ is set as 48k or 96k! If it helps my recordings are showing up when I hit ‘Select Track’ and they are filenamed in the following format……. ‘QU-ST001’ and ‘QU-ST002’. If I look at the file path structure in my formatted USB-A then it looks like the following….:
I can’t see an error in your approach, but as I said, I could imagine that the problem is related to the files themselves.
I could offer to provide me with such a file, so I could try to see if it’s playable on the SQ - which I doubt at this point.
And then we could investigate why it’s not possible.
You could post a link to such a file here, or, if you would prefer, send it via PM.
Yup although even without changing the filenames from ‘QU-ST00x.WAV’ they still played back on the console from within the USBPLAY folder. Worth noting that these are files were originally recorded on the desk rather than being external stereo WAV’s brought into the desk just for playback. Those “might” have internal headers that are incompatible with the desk depending on how or where they were originally created.
Yes, that should, of course, guarantee its playability.
I don’t think it’s the filenames, because at least SQ is surprisingly generous in that regard.
But just to be on the safe side, try renaming one of your problem files as “X.WAV”.
