Hi everyone! Could someone explain to me what the optimal level to aim for on the pafl meter for a channel is on the Qu-24? I feel like I have read and heard many conflicting opinions, and I am looking for a hopefully straightforward answer to what level the mixer is designed to operate optimally at. Should I be aiming for around -12 or should I be aiming for 0 on the pafl meter?
Thanks in advance!
Jacob
-12 is way too low of an average unless it’s for something you intend to keep pretty low in the mix because it cuts through very easily. For me that might be high hat and I’ll keep the preamp gain lower so I can have some fader resolution and keep the fader more towards unity rather than hotter gain and very low fader. But for everything else, zero as an average and a bit hotter on sources that need it like vocals. The bottom line is if you’re not clipping on the hot parts of songs, you’re gain structure is probably ok as long as your input gains aren’t running too cold.
